Hidden Mountain Teawares Co., Dehua County, Fujian Province
For every instinct to pay homage to tradition, there is often a counter-yearning to contest it. The rebellious soul shall not be contained if the art, nay the human - is to evolve.
The dragon fish motif on this gaiwan set whilst a hark to the time-honoured value of power and prosperity, is presented in a pop-art style that's otherwise more pertinent to graffiti than green tea. It's a way to bring conventional gaiwan practice into today, appealing to the bit of punk that reside in all of us.
