Mingzhu Tea Gardens, Wuyishan, Fujian, China

At the Mingzhu Tea Gardens, family producers and farmhands preside over the delicate pine-needle smoking process during the withering stage of this tea.

As the initial moisture of the freshly plucked leaves are first shaken off and removed in the sun, it is also smoked over cypress-pine needles. The level of smoke varies on demand. Our request is for a light-to-medium smoking so as to not override the natural sweetness of this Wuyishan classic.

This is also a high-grown tea, on terraced gardens of up to 1900m altitude -€“ a further reason not to over-smoke this tea as high grown teas are generally more delicate, sweet and yet more complex.

Dry leaves: medium length brown leaf
Taste: cigar-box aromas and hints of sweet berries
